Our Beliefs
It is well acknowledged these days that global warming is a reality, caused by our insatiable appetite for fossil fuels and the subsequent release of carbon dioxide. Of course there are other factors, including mass worldwide deforestation, cattle farming on a global scale, and decades of poor design and insulation in housing. The consequences of global warming, to put it mildly, are alarming (have a read of George Monbiot’s well researched Heat for the full catalogue of effects).
We all have the ability to make changes in our lives that can not only improve the immediate environment around us, in the short-term, but in the long term can help the planet recover from the impending effects of global warming. Some of these changes are small and will not have any noticeable impacts on our quality of life. They include replacing our light bulbs with more energy efficient ones, being conscious of the amount of water we use, particularly hot water, and taking care only to fill the kettle with the quantity of water needed.
Other changes will be more noticeable to us, but we will quickly learn that they do not need to reduce the quality of our lives. These include reducing, or ideally, ceasing air travel and making use of public transport rather than driving. We hope to demonstrate that the UK and countries in Europe accessible by train are so full of areas of perfect tranquillity that a flightless holiday can be just as enjoyable, and even more rewarding, than disappearing off around the world.
Go on, try it and see!
